Collaboration in fundingThere are potential benefits of collaborative funding but equally there are potential constraints which can affect the opportunity for collaborative funding.Benefits include: • shared costs and resources including research expertise; • increased networking opportunities for funders and contractors; • the potential to learn new knowledge; and • helping to challenge potential preconceptions about the area being researched or the research itself - including through commissioning interdisciplinary research Possible constraints: • inflexibility of budget profile; • issues relating to autonomy of organisation; and • the need for research to be responsive to external challenges including political ones. As one of the Funders’ Forum main aims is to develop collaborative funding among funding organisations, its members have provided an account of collaborative projects to aid any organisation who might be interested in developing collaborative funding partnerships.
