The TLRP is a coordinated research initiative. Its aim is to support and develop research which leads to improvements in outcomes for learners of all ages and in all sectors of education, training and lifelong learning in the UK. The first projects began work in 2000.
Aims, projects and themes are the building blocks of the TLRP's way of working.
The TLRP is directed by Professor Andrew Pollard, Institute of Education, University of London. The Economic and Social Research Council manages TLRP of behalf of its funders. To date it has received commitments of over £30 million from the Higher Education Funding Council for England, the Scottish Executive, the Welsh Assembly, the Northern Ireland Executive and the Department for Education and Skills.
All TLRP projects are chosen following a highly competitive selection process by ESRC. All major TLRP project outputs during the lifetime of the project are either externally peer-reviewed (for example, journal articles) or are subject to internal review and editorial scrutiny by the Directors' Team. Upon completion, the project, including major outputs, is evaluated by ESRC.
