using evidence

What do you want to use research for?

It can be helpful to think about what you want to use research for. Where do you, or your organisation, sit in the 3 ways of thinking about and using research suggested by Walter et al (2007)?

1) The research-based practitioner model

Here individuals have a personal commitment to using research and they need to be able to access and interpret research. They believe:

  • It is their role and responsibility to keep up to date with research and apply it to practice.
  • Professional education and training are important in enabling the use of research and in directly applying findings to their practice.
