using evidence

Using evidence for professional development

Evidence based approaches to professional development may involve:

  • Identifying an issue or aspect of practice you want to change;
  • Identifying suitable actions/ interventions/ changes to practice;
  • Implementing one or more of these and
  • Reflecting on how you put the changes into practice.
  • Reflection

Existing evidence can play an important role in this process by:

  • Helping you decide what you want to change (is it something others say is important)
  • Helping you decide how to change your practice
  • Providing models for how to implement the changes
  • Providing comparators when you measure the impact of your change.
