What do you want to use research for? (cont.)
2) The embedded research model
Here the responsibility for ensuring research informs practice lies with policy makers and service delivery managers (eg Local Authorities and Headteachers).
- It sees organisations embedding research in the systems and processes of teaching and learning, such as standards, policies and procedures and tools.
- Managers use performance management and inspection and appraisal regimes to encourage the use of research in practice.
3) The organisational excellence model
This model relies on delivery organisations developing a research-minded culture. They
- Create partnerships with local universities and other research organisations
- Adapt research findings to local settings
- Encourage ongoing learning within their organisation.

There is not a preferred model from the three above, indeed what happens in reality is often a blend of all three with different amounts of each model depending on the context…what blend do you have?
